Aklima Bibi

I am a single mother and grandmother in my 50s, living in Luton. I am the first woman to win domestic violence and bigamy case in a sharia court in Bangladesh, against my British husband. Despite being prevented from education during my earlier life, I am now the highest qualified member of my entire family, both immediate and extended – even amongst the male family members. Female family members in my generation did not even have a chance to an education. After many obstacles, I am amongst the first of them. My passion for writing has lead me to turn my notes for medical professionals into this book, which in return has provided a healing process for me. I am hoping that this book will educate, inspire and empower many others.

Aklima was engaged at 9, forced to marry while still a teenager, drugged and raped. A British citizen she was simply a commodity in the international trade of visas. She is a warrior, dubbed the British Bandit Queen for having fought off an honour-based mob attack while in Bangladesh and a contract killing. Aklima has survived years of abuse to not only tell her story, but change the circle of abuse for other women who don’t have a voice, through her work as an activist.
